Aspartame Renamed AminoSweet: A Toxin By Another Name is Still a Toxin
Found in many of the foods we consume every day, including diet soda, chewing gum, breakfast cereals, and jams, the artificial sweetener aspartame seems to be getting a makeover. Now, aspartame is being rebranded as AminoSweet.
Used as a sugar substitute and often marketed as Nutrasweet, Equal, Sugar Twin, and Canderelor, aspartame has been in the spotlight of controversial since the 1980s when the CEO of Searle, Donald Rumsfeld, pushed for it’s approval to be sold on the market.
Now, with FDA approval, the aspartame name change aims to leave behind its tainted reputation.
Made Using Genetically Modified Bacteria
Interestingly to say the least, it has been a secret until relatively recently that aspartame is made through a process which involves genetically modified bacteria.
Biotech giant Monsanto, who took part in the creation, insists that it is completely safe; however, simply because there was no modified DNA in the final product.
Aspartame may be a Little Dangerous
While controversial, several studies have shed light on the aspartame-cancer link. Though even aside from cancer, research has linked aspartame with the following symptoms and diseases:
- Headaches
- Memory loss
- Seizures
- Vision Loss
- Coma
- ADD
- Lupus
- Fibromyalgia
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Alzheimer’s
- Chrnoic Fatigue
- Diabetes
- Depression
Aspartame can be especially dangerous in the diet of those suffering from Phenylketonuria (PKU).
“. . .one in 15,000 people in the world has a genetic disorder called Phenylketonuria. Their body can’t metabolize synthesize phenylalanine. As it builds up in the body, it causes all sorts of bad things to happen, such as mental retardation, seizures, and other brain damage. People suffering from Phenylketonuria (or PKU) are called phenylketonurics. They need to constantly monitor their protein intake. They are also warned about consumption of products containing aspartame – hence the warning on labels – ‘Phenylketonurics – contains phenylalanine.”
Not only that, but aspartame is also chemically addictive to the body, even though it damages it profoundly – just like other drugs. This is why food makers want to put it in their products – so you will buy more of them.
European scientists have been telling us about the dangers of aspartame since 2005. Why on earth is it still allowed in our food?
Aspartame or AminoSweet – its all the same. Watch out for it on food labels. Eat honey, apple sauce, raw, non-GMO sugar, and other REAL food sweeteners instead. You deserve to live a sweet life without being a sucker.
One out of every four complaints to the FDA is about Aspartame. So I say politely to the FDA, “For Shame, for you know better.” “Your job is to protect the American people, first and foremost”.
How about calling it, “Dementia or Alzheimer’s Sweet”? Since as an excitotoxin, it is also a neurotoxin!
Mike: Thanks for a timely warning on the dangers of the Aspartame product, especially concerning PKU sufferers.
– A PKU Patient
My dry-eye syndrome went away two months after eliminating all sources of Aspartame. It wasn’t easy. It was in my chewing gum, cereal and yogurt. I now read every label and refuse to buy anything with Aspartame or preservatives or added sugar in it. I now weigh the same I did when I was younger and feel like a new person.
OMG I’ve been using this for over 15 years and I’m still here. Suger is the killer.
I don’t know if aspartame can cause cancer. What I DO know is that I, personally, am very sensitive to aspartame. It can give me awful headaches and plays havoc with my attention span. When I’ve been consuming aspartame I find it very difficult to maintain focus on anything, my head feels funny and I can’t work.
Whether or not it’s ‘approved’ doesn’t really tell you anything beyond the limited parameters of the trials upon which that approval is based. Asbestos was an ‘approved’ building material for many years but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t causing asbestos-related diseases in thousands of people before its use was banned.
